Before "Jersey Shore", before "The Hills" MTV had music videos. The Top 13 brings us the top 13 music videos from the very first day MTV was launched on August 1, 1981. Apparently of the 62 music videos aired that day, and 5 of them were Rod Stewarts and 4 of them were from, REO Speedwagon... The list leaves them out but includes videos by my still favorites like David Bowie, Pretenders, Elvis Costello, and of course The Buggles with their unforgettable and appropriate hit "Video Killed the Radio Star" among others. Check out the list for rest of the videos as well as interesting facts about each one. On the list of course is the ever wonderful Talking Heads with the video for "Once in a Lifetime."

Very few people in the music game will garner repeated positives from me, considering that I tend to believe most musicians and creative types just don't work hard enough or appreciate the opportunities they're given.  With that said, our boy Mike Posner is the exception to that rule.  I mention his story in meetings (record labels, brands, agencies, ... etc) as well as speaking engagements/panels; Mike basically schools most young (and old) artists when it comes to talent + work ethic (he just graduated Duke EARLY too btw).

With that said, it's not a surprise that these kids go crazy over his songs/shows... Apparently a small riot ensued before Mike's show in Ketucky the other night; click here for details via Elitaste.

I still don't understand what some of these other artists do every day.  Work on your craft and when you think you deserve it work 3 times as much THEN email us.  If you're lazy or not focused, don't bother the world with crap....

I've never followed the Twilight craze so had no idea who Ashley Greene was... Until today. These photos of her in the latest Interview got me to google her (you should too).

I may need a late pass on her...

Phil and I caught up the other night at the rooftop of London Hotel (very comparable to The Thompson Beverly Hills); Phil/Jon over at REASON has some cool projects in the works (one in particular is pretty slick) and a couple of those may involve dF.  Oh and check out their new site + online store for some goods...  

Cabinets aren't cool. To me they are something that gets overlooked and passed off as a standard, a necessity that really doesn't need to be highlighted simply because they only act as storage. But the Robern Uplift collection is an example of looking at an average situation and seeing the possibilities beyond what is given. Perfection is in the details.

I don't know why more companies can't just be as consistent as Vans. Scratch that, to do anything right once is easy, it's the process of recreating that spark that makes it a little tougher. But Vans every season seems to make it look easy, and with Spring/Summer around the corner, I'm going to have to stock up on my favorite low-top's. Check em' out.

 

Heard this on BBC Radio during the drive to San Diego last night. Two Door Cinema Club is quickly becoming my favorite upcoming band as I'm sure they are for many. Their debut album, Tourist History, is scheduled to drop March 1st.
