Art "Work Every Time"

I'm not a big beer drinker, and frankly I don't think I've ever had a Colt45. But, whatever gets some money in the pockets of fellow artists. Colt45 is partnering with Beautiful/Decay to present: Art “Work Every Time” Design Competition. You interpret Colt 45’s logo and catch phrase “Works Every Time” for a chance at $1000.45 along with other sweet rewards. Check it out, here.

The Radiant Child

Here's the trailer for the recently released Jean-Michel Basquiat documentary "The Radiant Child." It features never before seen interviews shot by his friend, Tamra Davis, just two years before his untimely death in 1988 at the age of 27. When I watch and listen to Jean-Michel in the beginning of this trailer I can see why and how he met his tragic end (heroine overdose.) He seems so delicate, fragile, it's almost no surprise he was engulfed by the art world and the burdens of being an "art star"...

Nikki Graziano

Nikki Graziano is an artist and a mathematician. In a perfect world I would be a chemist and an artist. So naturally her work excites me, a lot.

70 Million

The video for "70 Million" by Hold Your Horses could be part of the final for Art History 101. Turns out I paid more attention in my art history classes than I thought because I can identify all of the pieces referenced in the video. But then again, they are the obvious ones...

Ryan Travis Christian

I can not get over how good Ryan Travis Christian's work is! Thanks as always to Fecal Face, one of my favorite blogs, for exposing me to another great artist and the fantastic interview. More drawings and the interview here.

Art not ads

OK LA, you're starting to impress me. First it was the Patti Smith reading at my favorite independent book store, then the art opening at THIS couple weeks ago where the entire city of LA seemed to have shown up, and now this: "How Many Billboard."  21 LA billboards swapped with art.  You can visit the MAK Center for an overview of the show and they will be holding a reception for the artists this Saturday, February 27, 1-6 pm at the Schindler House.  Check out the map on the website and see how many you can spot!

Procrastination

A video about procrastinating I came across while I was, procrastinating. Watching it though really was no waste of time. Creative and inspiring.

Shaq the Renaissance Man

Shaquille O'neal is curating a show appropriately titled “Size DOES Matter" at the Flag Art Foundation in Chelsea; which just opened this past Friday on the 19th. The show features 52 works by 39 artists, including five special commissions. A basketball player, rapper, actor, reserve police officer (in Miami), and now curator. A true modern Renaissance Man indeed. There are more than couple interesting Q & A pieces floating around the web. Be sure to check them out if you're curious to hear about his thoughts on art as well as the process he took for curating the show. Large-scale sculpture "Big Man" by Ron Mueck, pictured below, is one of the pieces featured on the show.
